I returned to South Africa in July 2011 fully committed to use all the teaching skills I gained while travelling abroad.
In Eastern Europe I worked with children that were going to be relocated and through games helped them to learn English and work through the trauma of relocating to a different county. In Turkey I developed a curriculum and taught all subjects from English to Computer Literacy. I was able to instil a love for English in children who did not even speak English in the first place. In Saudi Arabia I continued with curriculum development and the teaching of all subjects except Chemistry and Math in Grade 12.
AT Newcastle High School I introduced my learners to interactive Natural Sciences & Life Sciences lessons. I used technology in my lessons to make it stimulating and practical. Learners that I mentored for Expo went on to represent South Africa at International Science Fairs in London, New York, Mexico and Brazil. I am also a firm believer that a rounded education is imperative for all children and that sport plays a crucial role in the full development of the child. Sport also keeps learners busy and out of mischief. I am also the Co-Ordinator and Coach of volleyball at Newcastle High. I also encouraged learners to use ingredients found at home to create exciting explosive demonstrations for the Internal Expo that we held annually to encourage Grade 7 learners to choose Newcastle High as their high school of choice.
I teach with passion and dedication.I really enjoy the whole education process. I firmly believe that education liberates the mind and that with education South Africa’s most important asset, its children, can become the best that they have the potential and ability to be.
